RISING MEN SUNSET CIRCLE

A QUARTERLY OFFERING · MORONGO VALLEY RANCH

Boys ages 10–13

Our first circle began on a basketball court, with room to move, laugh, roar, and eventually settle into stillness. As the boys became more comfortable, there was room for their voices, their questions, and the quiet attention of listening to one another.

They began discovering how movement can help give strong emotions somewhere to go, how breath can help them settle, and what it feels like to pause before responding. Nervous system regulation became something they could begin to experience in their own bodies. Each boy left with a journal and ways to use it—through writing, drawing, or simply putting one thought on a page.

Working with young people has been part of Alison’s life for many years, beginning with work as a physical education teacher. Rising Men brings that teaching experience together with my work in movement, breath, and men’s circles. There is a thoughtful foundation beneath each gathering, with space to respond to the boys who arrive and what unfolds between them.

And beside Alison is her grown son, sharing practices he grew up with, now through his own voice and experience. The boys get to hear from a young man who remembers being their age. She gets to sit alongside her son and watch him offer something of his own to the next generation.

While we gather on the court, the mothers gather with Heather in the Remedy Room lounge—sharing conversation, light snacks, and their own experience of raising boys. Mothers making space for themselves while their sons do the same. And there we are, a mother and her grown son, guiding alongside each other. A beautiful full circle, with connection at its heart.

IN OUR NEXT GATHERING

We’ll create intention jars and explore how a small intention can shape a day. How do I want to show up? What matters to me today? What could help me when something feels difficult? Through movement, conversation, breath, and a little creativity, we’ll give those questions somewhere to land—and the boys something they can take home and make their own.
